Airport Car Rental FAQ’s

Can I book a rental car if I do not have a credit card?
You will need a credit card to hire a car. The rental agent puts a deposit on the main driver’s card before handing over the keys.

When I collect the rental, what documents should I bring?
You will need a credit card for the deposit; the card must be in your name.
You will also need a full driving licence in your name. (Held for 2 years)
And finally you will need the rental car voucher.
If there are additional drivers they will need to bring their licence also.

What is car hire excess?
This is the amount you are liable for in the event that the car hire is damaged or stolen.

Why do I have to sign a car hire agreement at the rental counter?
This document sets out the terms and conditions of the car rental service.
Ensure that you read this contract carefully to ensure you understand the conditions, rental agreements will vary depending on the car hire company.

Where do I find information about the car hire’s insurance cover?
This information will be in the Important Information section of the Terms and Conditions. Please ensure that your read the terms and conditions carefully.

What insurance comes with the car hire?
You can find information relating to insurance on your rental voucher or in the terms and conditions. All car hire packages must have Car Hire Excess Insurance also known as Collision Damage Waiver. This may be included in the package. If not, it can be purchased through the car hire provider or an independent insurance broker.

What is car hire excess / collision damage wavier?
This insurance covers the excess limit in the event that the car rental is damaged. However this may not include tyres, window screens, replacement locks, keys, towing charges or undercarriage. Always read the terms and conditions to ensure you understand what is and what is not covered.

What does Theft Protection cover (TP)?
The car hire company will not charge you the entire cost if the rental is stolen while you have it. i.e. it will limit your liability in the event of theft.
However there is usually an excess, which means you will have pay the initial amount of any replacement or repair costs. The terms will depend on the car hire company. Always read the terms and conditions carefully.

How do I avoid additional fees when I drop off the rental?
By returning the car with the correct amount of fuel and on time you may avoid additional charges. Please note, there must be no damage to the rental and the car must be relatively clean.

Can I take the car rental to a different country?
This will depend on where you are hiring the rental car. Please contact us for options.

What are the fuel policy options?
The fuel policy will vary depending on the car hire company. This will be outlined in the car hire description. The majority of car rental deals come with a “Full to Full” fuel policy; the tank will be full when you pick up the car hire and you must ensure the fuel tank is full when returning it.

What happens if I am involved in an accident or the rental breaks down?
Call the rental car’s emergency number as soon as possible. This number will be outlined in the car hire agreement that you would have signed when you picked up the rental. If the rental was involved in an accident please phone the police to report the incident.

How to I change/amend my car hire reservation or add my flight number?
Select “Manage Booking” on the top right of our home page and follow the instructions.

If I wish to hire extra equipment i.e. child car seat, GPS, how do I pay?
These extras can be paid for at the rental counter when you arrive to pick up your car.

What type of payment methods do car rental companies accept?
You can make an online reservation with a credit or debit card. This will be highlighted in the online payment process. Please note, the main driver will require a credit card when picking up the car as the rental firm needs to put a deposit on the main driver’s card.

How do I cancel my car rental reservation?
You can do this in the “Manage Booking” section which is located on the top right of the home page. Enter your details and follow the online instructions.

What is your cancellation policy?
You will need to cancel more than 48 hrs before your car hire is due to start to receive a full refund. Please note, deposits are non refundable.
If you cancel less than 48 hrs before your car hire is due to start, you will receive a refund minus the price of 3 days rental. Please refer to the terms and conditions for full details.

How do I pay for additional drivers?
If you wish to add additional drivers you can pay the extra charge when you pick up your rental.

Do I need a driving licence to pick up my car rental?
Yes you will need your driving licence for your car rental, which should be a full licence held for at least 2 years. They do not accept a provisional licence. Some countries may require an International Driving Permit, if this is the case it will be highlighted on the rental voucher.

What additional fees do I have to pay at the car hire counter?
You will have to pay a rental deposit.
If you choose to add extras such as a GPS or Child seat these come at an extra cost.
You will also have to pay extra if you wish to add additional drivers. Depending on the car hire company other charges may include: fuel charge, road side assistance, cross border fee, out of hours, location, credit card charge and government rules and taxes. Check the terms and conditions for full details.

What should I do when I pick my car up?
Always check the condition of the car. Ensure that there is no damage, if you do notice that the car is damaged ask the car hire agent to make a note of it. We would also recommend that you take pictures.
Confirm if the rental is a diesel or petrol engine.
Ensure you understand the agreed fuel options, Full to Full, Full to Empty etc.
Become familiar with the rules of the road of your destination country.
Ensure all seat belts are working, safety is paramount.

Do I have to pay a deposit when picking up my car rental?
Yes you will have to pay a deposit at the counter in case the rental is stolen or damaged. This will be taken from the main driver’s card or debit card and held for the duration of the rental agreement. This would be standard practice for all car rental firms.

Can I purchase car hire excess insurance / collision damage waiver when at the car hire counter?
Yes, you may also be able to buy other types of cover depending on the car hire company.
For example insurance to cover parts of the rental that are not covered by standard collision damage waiver such as tyres and windows. Ask the car hire agent for full details.

How do I print my receipt or invoice?
Select the “Manage Booking” tab on the top right of the home page. Select the receipt section and follow the online instructions.

If I return my rental early do I get a refund?
No the rental company would have reserved that car for the full duration. The car rental company would have committed to the whole booking on your behalf.

How come I have been charged by the rental firm?
You may have added extra equipment to your car rental, such as GPS or a car seat.
You may have added additional drivers.
You may have purchased a car hire excess policy also know as collision damage waiver directly from the car rental counter. All fees and charges should be outlined in the car hire documentation.

What happens if I have to drop off or pick up the car hire after working hours?
When you make the online booking, we’ll ask you when you would like to pick up and drop off your car hire. The results will show you the times that are available. However if there are no car rentals available for those times, we’ll suggest options that most closely match your request.

What do I need to do if my flight is delayed or cancelled?
The car hire company will be able to track your flight if you have added your flight details to your booking. They will hold your car for up to 1 hr.
Alternatively please phone us if you have not added your flight details, our phone number will be on your rental voucher.
Flight cancellation and delays are out of our control, so unfortunately we cannot take any responsibility for any problems or additional costs due to them.
